Beth Kamhi's Secret Life of... Travel was awarded by Judge Jeremy Biles* Award of Merit. National Art Premiere 2009 showing at The Elmhurst Art Muesum,
Elmhurst, Illinois. 150 Cottage Hill, Elmhurst, IL 60126
The show runs from Friday Feburary 14th through March 18th, 2009

Jeremy Biles writes "Beth R. Kamhi's Secret Life of... Travel is like a discovery within a discovery, masterfully exploiting the tension between what's hidden and what's revealed, and playing with the audience's sense of visual desire. A hand-crafted ceramic log enfolds a decaled map; one can't help but imagine encountering such a fantastic log along a walk; the discovery is not only in the destination suggested by the map, but in the revalation of the map itself. In this sense, it's an uncanny object, both exotic and familiar, and suggests travel through physical and imagined, secret spaces. The melding of techniques is nicely matched by the level of handiwork.
