Reminder to Exhibitors

REMINDER TO EXHIBITORS: delivery of art work is Thursday, October 3, between 4 - 6 PM,  and Friday, October 4, between noon - 3 PM.

ALL WORK MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ARTIST'S CUP. Visitors to the Opening Reception, Sunday, October 13, 2--5 PM, may not buy a piece of art on the walls, but they want a work by the artist--thus the popularity of the cup project. This is our only fundraiser, so please help us cover costs of installation, food & wine, postcards, and other expenses!

Call For Entries ART/TECH:interface at ARC in December

INTERFACE: [N. IN-TER-FEYS; V. IN-TER-FEYS] 1. A COMMON BOUNDARY OR INTERCONNECTION BETWEEN SYSTEMS, EQUIPMENT, CONCEPTS, OR HUMAN BEINGS.

  Technological advancements have expanded exponentially over the past several decades. This explosion has impacted all aspects of our lives and experiences from every day personal uses of technology, to developments in medicine effecting our survival, to new discoveries and changing perceptions of our universe and beyond.

The relevance to our culture is undeniable. It has altered and adjusted the way we interact, receive, interpret and share information. Has this changed our perceptions of what art is? How has this informed an artist’s perceptions, expressions, or interactions with the world and their art?

This juried exhibition invites artists to submit work that investigates, discusses, or is influenced by these issues. Submitted work can:

• Address the issue of cultural impact as a concept • Use technology as a medium for a creative concept • Is directly informed by technology though might not necessarily use technology within the

artwork itself or as a sole means of expression. • Focuses on how technology has altered artists’ perception of their vision and work

All media will be considered. Please read the sections on Submission Requirements / How to Submit Work, and Acceptance Requirements before beginning submission process.

About Jan Tichy
Born in Prague in 1974, Tichy moved to Israel in the mid-1990s. After studying at Musrara School of Photography in Jerusalem and Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Tel Aviv, he moved to Chicago in 2007, where he earned his MFA from the School of the Art Institute where he currently teaches. Tichy has had solo exhibitions at the Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Richard Gray Gallery, Chicago; and the Center for Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv.

Human Thread Center/Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibit “Collateral Damage”, drawings and mixed media work by Kathy Weaver.

Opening – Friday, October 18th, 6 - 10 pm.

Weaver’s large scale airbrush and charcoal drawings portray the effects of war on citizens and their environment. The drawings are inspired by people’s endurance in the face of the dogs of war. Several fiber pieces are also on view, among them one  depicting suspension of Habeas Corpus at Guantanamo.

HumanThread Center/Gallery for Nonviolence, Arts & Education is an NPO that engages individuals in conversation about peace, nonviolence and human dignity through art, education, and discussion. Open Mic performances will take place at the gallery during the exhibition.

ARC 40th Anniversery

Hi Everyone~

This is such a  groundbreaking event by a groundbreaking group of women - the founders and  members of one of the longest-running women-run feminist galleries in the country - the 40th Anniversary Exhibition/Celebration of ARC Gallery and Educational Foundation - of which I am honored and proud to be a member.  

I have a favorite recent drawing in this show, see below, and  though I will be unable to attend the opening myself because of recent surgery (still plowing through the rehab and recovery!)  I hope you will try to make it there for the opening on 9/27 and /or to be there for the panel discussion on the 28th which should be a fascinating insight into the early years of the feminist movement and the gallery's own establishment, by some of its founding members!
