Opportunities

Dear Illinois artist,

The Illinois Arts Council is pleased to announce that the FY09 Artists Fellowship Program guidelines and electronic application are now available from our website – www.state.il.us/agency/iac

This year applications will be accepted in the following discipline categories: interdisciplinary/computer art, music composition, photography, poetry, and visual arts.

Beginning in Fiscal Year 2009 (FY09), Illinois Arts Council (IAC) Artists Fellowship applications will be submitted online through the CueRate system. CueRate is an electronic application developed by Carnegie Mellon University Center for Arts Management and Technology for the submission and review of Artists Fellowship applications. The CueRate system enables artists to complete and submit the Artists Fellowship application via the internet. If you need assistance using CueRate, please consider attending one of the IAC Artists Fellowship/CueRate Informational Workshops being scheduled throughout the state in July and August.

You may also contact Encarnacion Teruel, Director of Visual Arts, Media Arts, and Multi-Disciplinary Programs, by telephone 312/814-6753, or email: encarnacion.teruel@illinois.gov.

Workshops will be held in the following cities: Alton, Carbondale, Champaign, Chicago, Rockford, Rock Island and Springfield. To see a schedule of Artists Fellowship/CueRate Informational Workshops visit our website – www.state.il.us/agency/iac/mtgs.htm

Opportunity

Hello from the National Portrait Gallery. If you have entered the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2009 already, thank you and good luck! If not, this is a reminder that the call for entries in all visual arts media closes on Thursday, July 31, 2008.

First prize: $25,000 and an opportunity for a commission to create a portrait of a remarkable living American for the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery.
You can learn more about the competition and enter online at the website www.portraitcompetition.si.edu

Deadline: Thursday, July 31, 2008

The competition and resulting exhibition will celebrate excellence and innovation, with a strong focus on the variety of portrait media used by artists today. The juried competition will result in an exhibition of approximately 60 of the finalists' works. The National Portrait Gallery welcomes single figure-, group-, or self-portraits—from classical drawing and painting or hyperrealistic sculpture to large-scale photography to prints and new media. The competition is named for Virginia Outwin Boochever (1920–2005), a former Portrait Gallery volunteer whose generous gift has endowed this program.
