25th Anniversary Exhibition
Chicago Printmakers Collaborative
Christopher Art Gallery at Prairie State College
202 S. Halsted St. • Chicago Heights, IL
Reception: Thursday, Nov. 20th, 4:30-7:00pm
Nov. 17th – Dec. 19th, 2014
“Suite Prints” is an exhibition celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative, a community of print artists who create handmade prints in the facility on Chicago’s north side. In the 25 years since its inception, many of Chicago’s best-known printmakers have passed through the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative, creating prints in all media of printmaking. The printmaking facility features printmaker’s studios, classes, workshops, exhibitions and sales, all under the leadership of Director Deborah Maris Lader. The Christopher Art Gallery features works from four collaborative suites of prints (in which various members contribute a print to a large portfolio based on a theme), as well as a number of framed works by current and previous members. The 25th anniversary is being celebrated with simultaneous exhibitions at Prairie State College and at the Chicago Cultural Center.

Judith Roth at the Koehnline
Judith Roth's graphite drawing "GAITERS" (44x34) is included in the Women's International Juried Art Exhibition "Gendering Desire: Liberationl Power, and Pleasure" at the Koehnline Museum of Art, October 2-24, 2014 - This
image reflects echoes of both genders - masculine and feminine
ambiguities. Do elevated shoes reflect power? Do high heels exude
power? The fingerless gloves, the torn stockings, the gaiters, all add
hints of dominance and submission....

Space Gallery: This show interests itself in the “non-objective”: art that is not representational, that contains no recognizable figures or objects, art that has no intentional derivation from any concrete matter.
The work for this show was selected because each artist uses the surface as a crucial element beyond a vehicle on which to apply a medium….either revealing what is behind/under the surface or concealing/altering/manipulating the surface itself and in a palette of white, black, gray, or neutral.

SCULPTOR AND ENVIRONMENTALIST, VICTORIA FULLER, EXAMINES THE NATURAL WORLD AT PACKER SCHOPF GALLERY
Victoria Fuller’s sculpture explores nature from many angles – underground, above ground, and inner space. In an exhibition at Packer Schopf Gallery, Fuller offers a multilayer investigation of environmental systems. Aptly titled Nature², Fuller’s sculptures alternately depict organic and man-made structures, illustrating both nature’s abundance and the dire consequences of human interference. Figurative representations of untouched flora and fauna juxtapose ecological carelessness and exploitation. For example, the hibernating chipmunks of Deep Down starkly contrast Factory Farm’s caged chickens. Viewed as a collection, Fuller’s artwork simultaneously examines nature’s inherent harmony and the human tendency to control it.
Nature² marks a departure in Fuller’s artwork. While prior sculpture re-appropriated common, manufactured objects to subtly reveal environmental motifs, the Nature² collection interprets the natural world via more literal construction. Direct depictions of organic elements - whether among earth and grass or human-implemented industrial piping – allow Fuller to investigate systems impacted by man’s activity in a widely-understandable manner. Though distinct, Fuller’s newer sculpture remains interconnected with her found object-based artwork. Each body of work informs the other, fully illuminating the universal experience of life on earth.
***
Victoria Fuller is a Chicago sculptor, painter, and natural science illustrator who has exhibited in galleries, museums, and public spaces across the United States. She has been awarded projects from corporate and community organizations such as Disney’s ESPN Zone, St. Louis’ Arts in Transit, and Seattle’s Sound Transit for whom she recently completed a 35’ bronze sculpture,Global Garden Shovel. Fuller is best known for Shoe of Shoes, a large shoe-shaped public sculpture comprised of thousands of aluminum high-heels in front of Brown Shoe Company.
Nature² is open to the public from June 6 through July 12, 2014. It is presented in the upstairs exhibition room at Packer Schopf Gallery.

to someone there to instruct a workshop/demonstration, show your work in
our
gallery, or are just plain eager to learn more! We are also eager to
learn more. In fact, we would like to learn more about you and your
talents.
This
preliminary e-mail is just an introduction to our plans of expansion
and also a way of getting to know more about the individuals we will be
creating alongside. I would like to know more about your talents as an
artist and also as a person. We want to highlight all of your abilities
as a person and a talented individual.
I have some questions for you. Feel free to answer them in a way that feels fun for you:
- What are your areas of expertise?
- What workshops would you like to teach?
- What materials would you need to be able to teach this?
- How would you like to be compensated for your time? (ie. trade, monetary, art supplies)
- Is there any other pertinent information for this workshop?
- Also, is there a particular workshop you would like to take if it was offered in the store?
- What is your preferred method of contact?
I
appreciate any and all feedback; everything is very helpful to us right
now. Feel free to e-mail me anything. I am open to
suggestions/comments/concerns, all of it! There’s a lot of time,
effort, and heart going into this new space and we want the vibe to
reflect that. I know you are a talented person who can really assist in
creating a great space with us.
Thank you,
April Hutter
